How many of you have found yourselves wandering around the mall from store to store, looking for that one item you need, only to leave empty handed or with a sub-par product you don't entirely love?
About 2 years ago, this was me. I would venture to the mall looking for a specific item and wander around, hoping I'd end up in a store with the product. This rarely worked. I would find myself getting distracted with other items that I didn't need or purchasing a product that I wasn't in love with at a price a little higher than I wanted to pay, and more often than not, I'd leave with nothing.
Eventually I got tired of this and started researching the product I was looking for online ahead of time. This was a LIFE CHANGER. You are probably thinking, duh! But this goes deeper than just saving yourself some time.
When I began to shop with a purpose buy purchasing only items I needed at the time, I found myself price comparing online before visiting stores (thank God for the internet) which has saved me a lot of money and allowed me to successfully stick to a budget. I was able to narrow down which brands carried my favorite versions of the product and then map out the stores I could visit them sans wandering. This freed up a lot of time for other activities and eliminated the frustration of visiting a store only to find out they didn't have the item.
Most importantly, shopping with a purpose encourages a sustainable mindset. You know exactly what you are looking for, and will rarely purchase unneeded items when you have direction. I am a firm believer in only buying what we need, rather than stocking up on items that look cool but sit around and aren't used. I challenge you to use this strategy the next time you go shopping; I think you will be surprised at how refreshing it is to visit a store, see the product, pay the price you budgeted for, AND leave stress free with the product in hand!
