Intern Profile: Meredith
We're excited to share that we have a new Social Media Intern on board, meet Meredith! Meredith originally grew up near Philadelphia, PA but moved to Washington, D.C. three years ago to study Fashion Design and English at Marymount University. We couldn't be happier to welcome her to our Mimi Miller team!
How did you become interested in fashion design + social media marketing?
I’ve been interested in fashion design for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories of being interested in fashion consist of sitting with my little pink notebook and drawing the red carpet dresses from award shows that I liked. During high school I took fashion design classes at a local art school where I learned how to create my own garments from my own patterns and loved the freedom that that gave me to create whatever I wanted. At the same time, I created an online and print fashion magazine with a friend at my high school. I did social media, photography, styling, writing, and editing for it which really drove my love for the fashion industry but in a whole new light. I learned that the fashion industry isn’t just fashion design, there’s so many more opportunities out there!
What is your must-have piece for fall?
My must have pieces for fall are a chunky black booty (I’m loving that Chelsea boots are in this season), a black, vegan leather jacket, and a black turtleneck. Anything that’s versatile and that I’m able to layer I’m immediately drawn to!
Share one thing you love about DC’s fashion scene.
I love seeing the young professional’s take on business clothing. I see a lot of modern, updated takes on classic pieces that I love. I, also, love the simplicity and neutrals of D.C. fashion since I’m a devout neutrals person myself!
What is the one thing that would surprise people to find out about you?
I am very into discovering the healing benefits of natural, holistic items like crystals, salt lamps, and plants! I keep my apartment filled with these things and am always on the hunt/researching for more! It’s part of my self-care routine and my way to keep my day to day life positive with good energy!
Share 2 of your favorite ethical brands!
It’s hard to narrow down just two ethical brands I love. Andagain Co. is a great sustainable, luxury small business for clothing pieces. Of course I love Package Free Shop, too. I love that Package Free is sustainable and ethical and offers so many different products for all aspects of your life, beyond fashion!
What is your favorite Instagram account to follow?
Some of my favourite Instagram accounts to follow are @Packagefreeshop, @Thefashionablybroke (a D.C. native, yay!), @Amaka.hamelijnck, @chanelmckinsie, and @chiaraferragni. I love seeing a mix of fashion, lifestyle, sustainability, and realness!
Who is your style icon?
My style icon is definitely Chiara Ferragni, Delilah Belle, and Emily Shak. I love their mix of edgy styles that play with feminine silhouettes.
Share your favorite part about interning for a small business.

Fashion Revolution Week 2019: Handmade, Utilitarian, or Luxury
Happy Fashion Revolution Week! This week is so important us, as ethical fashion is at our core mission.
Today I wanted to share my thoughts on how ethical fashion is sometimes perceived. When one hears "ethical fashion", different ideas come to mind. I think when most hear the term, they think of clothing that is either handmade or utilitarian-but usually not luxury.

Embracing Change: What's to Come for Fall 2018
Grab a coffee or tea and get comfy, because this is long.
It's been a while since I've written a serious blog post and if you follow us on Instagram, you know why. Though blogging has great benefits for growing a business, it's just not my passion or strength and it was feeling very forced. As you know, the brand was founded on the idea of quality over quantity and I felt that the blog wasn't following that theme. So what does that mean going forward?

Importance of Test Washing + Pre-Washing Fabrics
I'm excited to get a little nerdy today and chat about the importance of test-washing and pre-washing fabrics. Designing a clothing line is so much more than just sketching and sourcing pretty fabrics, but also testing these fabrics for shrinkage, fading, pilling, etc; something that is not so glamourous.
