Hey everyone, long time no see! I am here today to write about a very exciting opportunity I am taking advantage of this fall! As you all know I am going into my junior year at Marymount University. But this next semester, I will not be right outside D.C. but instead across the ocean. Yes, I will be studying abroad in Florence, Italy from the end of August until a few days before Christmas. Luckily for me I will still be sticking around with Mimi Miller for those four months!
As many of you may know packing is not the simplest thing to do especially for four months. I am deciding to stick with the basics when I travel abroad to maximize space during my time. It is tricky because I have to pack and be prepared for multiple climates. I have to pack for summer, fall and winter weather. In addition to multiple climates I have to pack for multiple destinations for weekend and break trips while I am abroad.
My number one trick for packing simply is sticking to a neutral and classic color scheme. I am packing a lot of black, white and navy. Sticking with those three neutral shades will allow me to mix and match easily. I am also packing layering pieces; sweaters, button-downs and tee shirts will allow me to mix and match easily and help with all different temperatures.
As hard as it may be I am also taking it pretty easy on shoes. I am packing only what I know I will wear and what will be versatile. I am sticking to the basics; black and nude flats, my black pair of Chelsea boots and a few pairs of sandals.
One of the things I am looking forward to on the trip is documenting it. I am making room in my bag for a journal and camera and of course my iPad and computer. I am looking forward to journaling along with documenting days with photos and videos. I would much rather fill up SD cards than fill my bags coming home with souvenirs. I have always been about paying for the experience and memories and not necessarily the material memories.
As of right now I only have 9 days until I set foot into the plane onto the biggest adventure of my life! Lets hope I can stick to the advice I am giving you guys. I cannot wait to share with you guys more about my journey abroad in the weeks to come!
