In addition to "clean" or ethical fashion, clean beauty is another topic that I love and fully support. I'm excited to chat about the clean beauty products I use for makeup and share the brands I love!
At a later point, I will go more in depth as to why I made the switch to clean beauty products but for now, I want to share with you my daily morning routine. Full disclosure, any information I share is what I've learned from my own research and experiences. Also, I have dry skin so oily skin friends might need to make some adjustments.
Step 1: Oil Cleanse
Since January I've been oil cleansing and it has been a GAME CHANGER. I will never go back to sudsy, foamy cleansers. This idea sounds crazy to most, why would you use oil to remove oil? Isn't it going to make your skin oily and break you out? Nope! Oil cleansers operate under the idea that like removes like, and in fact, the oil helps to rebalance the natural oils of your skin. Now of course, water doesn't remove oil, so I wet a wash cloth with hot water, ring it out, and lay it on my face to steam. Once it starts to cool, I gently wipe away any excess oil. If cleansing at night, I use a Pacifica Beauty makeup wipe first to remove the bulk of my makeup for the day.
*I also make my own oil cleanser which you can read about here
Step 2: Rose Water Spray
Instead of wiping my face with a toner, which sometimes has alcohol in it so watch out (alcohol can dry your skin out), I use a rose water spray. A few spritzes and I'm good. This helps to rebalance the pH of my skin and nourishes it a bit more.
Step 3: Eye Serum + Face Butter
I discovered the brand Sans Skincare at holiday market I participated in back in December and boy am I glad I did!! Their products are AMAZING (another brand I will never stop using). I use their Nourishing Eye Serum + Whipped Face Butter in Tahitian Gardenia. The eye serum comes with a dropper, and 1 drop is all you need for both eyes. It is like gold! I then dot the face butter around my face, you only need a bit of this stuff as well-a little goes a long way. These two products just nourish my skin so well. I like to focus more on the health of my skin than using makeup to cover it up, and these products make a great base.
Step 4: Prep
I've been an Honest Beauty customer ever since they launched and I'm hooked. Jessica Alba has really created some phenomenal products that are clean and have good coverage. Pretty much all of the makeup I use comes from Honest Beauty. Once again, I haven't used a product that I didn't like. I start with their Everything Primer as a base for foundation, and to help it stay put on my face longer. The primer has tiny, tiny gold flecks to give you a subtle glow. I will even use this on days that I don't wear makeup for an extra glowy boost. I then follow with their cream foundation and concealer. These products blend so well with a beauty blender (I've used it wet and dry) and they don't look cake-y. In the summer, I will use their loose powder to set my t-zone and the area under my eyes.
Step 5: Eye + Cheek Color
Since I have a rounder face shape, I love to contour-it's something that I don't mind spending extra time doing. I used to use a powder kit but with dry skin, creams have been my BFF. This Honest Beauty contour + highlight kit is amazing and I will definitely be repurchasing it (as you can see, I've hit the pan).
Like many other palettes, you can customize your contour color with the two shades and the highlighter gives the perfect glow-it's not too shimmery or glittery at all. I just love the creaminess of this palette. I then use their blush in Truly Flirting to add some color to my cheeks. Once again, this cream blush blends beautifully and you only need a little bit. I'll fill in my eyebrows lightly-I like for them to have a natural look. I've been using a pencil from Anastasia, but will be switching to one from Honest Beauty when I run out. I like to keep my eyes pretty simple. I usually stick with brown shades, the one here is Patina from MAC. Sometimes I'll do a wash of color on the lid if I'm feeling lazy, or I'll just put a natural brown color in my crease, and eyeliner is dependent on the mood I'm in.
Step 6: Finishing touches
While I love the Honest Beauty mascara, I have found that it is a wetter formula. So, I like to use the Urban Decay setting spray in Chill before doing my lashes as to not smudge them. After the spray, I curl my lashes and apply the primer and mascara to make sure my lashes as as long as possible-I need all the help I can get! For lips, I tend to use a nude/brown color. However, my favorite spring time lip pop has been Dozen Carnations by MAC-I wear this when I'm feeling fancy, or have on a white tee + jeans for an added pop.
This might sound like a lot, but I can do it in 10 minutes tops! Have any clean beauty products you love? Share them with us below so we can check them out too!
