As I've shared before, I'm not a huge New Year resolution person. Constant evaluation and growth year round is more my thing. However, the new year does bring me to think about what I'd like to do more of or do better in the new year. So instead of more traditional resolutions, I'm going to share my style + beauty resolutions. Cheesy? Maybe. But I'm sure some of you will resonate with them.
1. Wear more lipstick
When it comes to makeup, I invest more in serums and moisturizers than I do foundation, and usually keep the makeup I wear pretty natural. That being said, I love me some nude lipsticks. However, I also love a good orange-red lipstick. I want to step out of my comfort zone in 2018 and wear red more often. In the past I've shied away from the color out of fear that it was too loud, made my lips look too big, or it was too fancy for a normal day. Not any more! 2018 is going to be my year of red lipstick. My fave color at the moment? Dozen of Carnations by MAC. Maybe I should document it on Instagram to hold myself accountable?
2. Wear heels more often
I. Love. Heels. But once again (just like the red lipstick), I tend to change my mind last minute about wearing them out of fear that people will think I'm over dressed, trying too hard, or just look ridiculous in heels at a coffee shop. And let me clarify, I don't mean stilettos, just some simple block heels no more than 2" high. You might think that because I design clothes that I am fearless and don't care about what others think of my outfits. To a degree that is true and I wholeheartedly dress for myself, but those doubtful, negative thoughts do get the best of me too sometimes.
3. Use a hair mask once a week
My hair is the one thing that I still haven't quite mastered and don't invest that much time in. I have naturally curly hair which can be a bear to handle sometimes so I usually blow dry and straighten it once a week, just heaping on the heat damage. While I use heat protectants and such, I'm really bad about giving myself a hair mask or any sort of treatment, and that needs to change. Please share any natural hair treatments that you love in the comments!
4. Invest in jewelry
I've never been one to pile on the jewelry, scarfs, or such. I usually stick to my watch, a simple bracelet, a ring or two, and diamond studs that I never take out. And yes, it's all gold. I want to incorporate more statement pieces that are still everyday friendly, and definitely up my ring game.
5. Become more comfortable with my curly hair
My curly hair and I have always had a love-hate relationship. When it behaves (1% of the time) it's great and I love it, but more often than not, it doesn't. It ends up being a frizzy mess that I have to redo every. single. day. I still haven't found that holy grail product either which I why I straighten it more often than not. It looks sleek, it's not frizzy, I don't have to redo it every morning, and the style lasts nearly a week (depending on how much yoga I do). The flat iron has been my best friend in terms of ease but I want to learn to love my naturally curly hair for all that it is and learn how to work with it, rather than against it.
