It's still pretty hot here in the DMV despite it officially being fall. However, we've rounded up 10 of our favorite (and maybe a little unconventional) activities for our favorite season of the year!
1. Make your house smell like fall
There's nothing better than having a house that smells citrusy, spicy, and warm like fall. What is great about these stovetop recipes is that they are all natural. If you are sensitive to synthetic scents, this is perfect for you!
2. Save a few bucks and DIY your own fall nails
What makes this design a great fall option is that it isn't overtly "fall". There are no pumpkins, leaves, orange colors, etc. It's way more sophisticated and modern.
3. Don't carve a pumpkin
You heard us right, no pumpkin carving here. Do something a little different and more abstract this season. We love these marbled pumpkins and all it takes is nail polish + water! So much easier and clean up will be a breeze-no lingering pumpkin seeds around with this one.
4. Make a non Pumpkin Spice Latte Drink
We know some of you love a PSL but we also know that with pumpkin infused things everywhere, the flavor can get old. Instead, try out this maple latte for a warm drink that still tastes like fall, but doesn't involve pumpkin.
5. DIY Pom Pom Blanket for Fall
This no-sew blanket will keep you cute and warm at the same time, not to mention it will also elevate your home decor game instantly! Dedicate a Saturday or Sunday to getting crafty while watching your favorite fall movies (my guilty pleasure is the Hallmark Channel) and then curl up in it when you are done!
6. Go for a picnic
Gather some friends or your S.O. and go for a picnic at your favorite local park, or even your back yard! Really soak up that crisp, fall air while enjoying some low key bites and catching up. Keep the menu simple with a cheese board and maybe some sandwiches if you are extra hungry. Don't forget to bring hot apple cider to keep you warm. Buffalo check pillows and blankets make it extra fun too!
7. Visit a corn maze
Visiting a corn maze is something I don't do every fall but I do wish I did. Getting lost in a corn maze is so fun, and really helps you detach from everything else. Find some friends to go with, make sure one of them is good with directions.
8. Make some homemade soup
Step outside your comfort zone and try a new soup recipe, like butternut squash soup. It's creamy, nuttiness is a nice change from tomato, chicken noodle, or even chili.
9. Open your windows
This might seem a little silly, but I think it's something that we don't usually think about doing. We all love the crisp, fall air, but I think we forget the we can experience in our house, instead of only when we leave to go somewhere. Crack your windows for a few hours and enjoy the crisp, fresh breeze. Sometimes having a breeze makes being under a blanket more enjoyable. You might also find that your house smells a little fresher after!
10. Host a bonfire
If you can't already tell, we are all about hosting and gathering friends together. What better way to do this than with a bonfire? Get a fire going around dusk so you can appreciate the beautiful colors in the sky that happen when fall is here. Whip up a batch of spicy hot chocolate and don't forget ingredients for s'mores. Be sure to have a few blankets around as well in case your guests get a little chilly.
We hope you give some of these a try and if you do, tag us on social media so we can see @shopmimimiller!
