Hey Guys, let me begin by introducing myself I am Olivia Pienta. I am Junior at Marymount University in Arlington, VA. I major in Fashion Merchandising with a Business Administration minor. I am the social media/ PR intern for the Mimi Miller brand. I run the brand’s Instagram, Facebook and blog.
What drew you to social media management?
I never actually even thought about social media management or PR before this past school year. I have always loved posting on Instagram and taking Instagram pictures but never thought about it as an internship or future career. I decided to run for a position in Marymount’s Fashion Club that being Publicity Officer. That position required me to run the club’s Instagram, create promotional posters, and manage the club's Facebook. I found out that I not only enjoyed it but I was good at it. Our school each year produces a fashion show, Portfolio in Motion, and I was part of the PR team, and that is when I decided that it was something that I wanted to pursue.
If you could manage any brand’s Instagram account, who would it be?
If I could manage any brand’s Instagram account it would definitely be Anthropologie or J. Crew. Both of those brands are a mixture of my style some days I am super preppy other days I am more bohemian and different.
What is your must have staple piece for summer?
I am working two retail jobs almost everyday and both of those jobs require me in two different outfits most times. I have found a happy medium so this summer my staple piece have been cute and versatile sundresses.
Share one thing you love about D.C.’s fashion scene
I was not expecting D.C. to be a fashion scene as much as it is! People are not afraid to be different. I am so impressed by how women dress for work they do not dress stuffy and in a typical pant suit. The women of D.C. have fun with their business dress with bright blazers and fun skirts!
What has been your biggest challenge in managing social media accounts?
I think the biggest challenge of managing social media I have had is constantly staying up to date in the statistics and analytics to ensure that I am staying on top and maximizing our exposure.
What is one thing that would surprise people to find out about you?
My music taste actually tends to surprise people which is always super funny to me. I am kind of a music nerd my music taste has highly evolved since the days of the Jonas Brothers (thanks dad). I actually research music, Rolling Stone and other music blogs are daily reads for me. I am always looking for something new in the alternative, indie genre.
Share 2 of your favorite ethical brands
One of my favorite ethical brands is Kiel James Patrick based in Connecticut. They are an all American produced accessories brand, they are beginning to introduce clothing to their brand. I have grown quite the collection of their bracelets and still want more.
Of course one of my favorite brands is Mimi. I honestly love what she is doing and that is why I was so interested in taking this position. There are not many places where you can find not only ethical, made in America apparel but also modest clothing.
Who is your style icon?
My style icon is kind of a mixture of two different women, my main inspiration is Sarah Vickers of Classy Girls Wear Pearls. She is a preppy blogger I have been following for as long as I can remember. Also, Olivia Palmero is also a huge inspiration for me, I think she is so classy and preppy but she knows how to make her style trendy and fun.
What is your favorite Instagram account to follow?
Ah this is such a hard question, I follow so many incredible Instagram accounts. Actually I might just bullet point of few of my account and you all can go and check them out because I think they are perfect!
- Kiel James Patrick-- @Kjp
- Francesca Acciardo of The Blonde Prep-- @Franaccciardo
- Meaghan Moynahan-- @Districtsparkle
- Audrey Roloff-- @AudreyRoloff
Have you had an “Ah Ha!” moment when managing social media accounts? If so, what was it?
I think just to have fun with it, Instagram and social media is all about being different there are no rules! The more unique you are the more fun you are the more you stand out!
Share your favorite part about interning for a small business
I think the best part about interning for a small business is that you actually play an integral part in building the company. When interning with a larger company you are sometimes not given much responsibility especially with Mimi she has let me 100 hundred make decisions and give my opinions. It is an awesome feeling knowing your opinion is wanted and appreciated!
