One of the great things about being your own boss is the ability to set your own schedule whether that means working more or letting yourself off a few hours early. After a busy day of running (a.k.a driving) around D.C. for meetings and then coming home to sew and edit patterns, I'll stop working a few hours earlier than usual to wind down and take some extra time to relax.
I'll start off by removing my makeup-anyone else agree this is the BEST feeling in the world at the end of the day? I'll wash my face using a gentle cleanser as my skin is super sensitive and then mix up a clay + charcoal mask with some apple cider vinegar. I like to add in 1-2 drops of tea tree essential oil too for extra antibacterial and cleansing properties.
While the mask is doing its work, I will head into my bedroom, light my candle from JSquared Candle Co, and download the newest magazine on my iPad. The scent I have is Sleep & Peace: Marjoram and Lavender and it smells SO good. Because owners Jeff and Jeff use essential oils, this candle truly is relaxing. I absolutely love using my ipad for magazines since I can subscribe to many and not have them pile up around my house. While I do love receiving physical subscriptions, I have the hardest time recycling them or donating them because I'm like, "I may need this information one day!" Will I actually need whatever information is in these magazines? Probably not. Right now I am subscribed to Instyle and have been pleasantly surprised with their recent issues.
Once the mask has dried, I will head into the bathroom to wash it off before hopping in the shower for some extra steam/pore-opening work. Once I'm finished with the shower, I will wash my face again to ensure all the residue from the mask is washed away. A friend recommended the Olay ProX over a year ago when I was looking into the Clarisonic. I have been pleased with the ProX and use it almost nightly, and definitely after I apply a mask. I then continue with my skincare routine, using my favorite toner from Thayer's in their rose scent, eye cream from Nourish Organics, and end with my favorite organic face oil that I created. It contains a blend of frankincense, lavender, tamanu oil, and almond oil. My skin is very dry, even in the dead of summer , and this moisturizes it perfectly-I only use 3-4 drops in the evening. Sometimes I will add 2 drops to my moisturizer in the morning for extra dewiness-us dry-skin girls need all the dewy we can get!
DIY Facial Oil
15 Drops Frankincense Essential Oil: anti-aging, antibacterial
15 Drops Lavender Essential Oil: combats free radicals, anti-aging
15 Drops Tamanu Oil: great for dry skin, healing blemishes
Organic Almond Oil
2 oz Glass Bottle with Dropper
Add in frankincense, lavender, and tamanu oil first then fill the bottle the rest of the way with the almond oil. Shake well and store in a dark place to preserve the quality of the essential oils. You can also double the recipe and use it as a body oil.
After all of this, you can find me finishing my magazine with a cup of Yogi Ginger Tea, usually half asleep.
